This week the Monarchs have been busy. The last two weekend opponents the Monarchs went to battle with where ranked in the nation. The Emory Eagles where ranked in number 14 in the nation and came in to Armstrong Shelly field and defeated the Monarchs once in a two game series. In game two the umpires called the game in the top of the 11th inning with the game tied due to the weather. As for this past weekend the Monarchs hosted conference rival Christopher Newport. The Captains where ranked number 11 in the nation and are currently first in the conference. The Monarchs split with the captains in a two game series. The Monarchs are coming up on their last weekend of conference play verses Avert, before the conference tournament. I have been working on the cycling clips with my intern partner and it has been going real well. I have completed 30 hours this week which brings my total to 291!!!!

Spring Break!!!

The baseball team had 4 conference games over break. Splitting with Shenandoah and sweeping Ferrum for the first time in 5 years. The Monarchs are on a 5 game winning streak. The Monarchs have a big series coming up verses N.C. Wesleyan. This series could determine the conference champs. Things are coming alone good; mid-term grades are coming out soon and that will tell how things are looking for graduation. I’m still working with dartfish with my intern partner. Having allot of games over spring break and everyone gone I put in allot of hours with the SID. With these two big weeks behind me I have added 64 hours to my intern hours and still have a little ways to go. This brings my total intern hours to 231!!!!!

Press Release!!!!

February 26, 2008
Monarchs Win Big Against Capital 14-4
Senior Scott Russell hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI

FAYETTEVILE, NC - The Monarchs where scheduled to play at 4 p.m. today and some wet weather pushed it to a six o’clock start, but the Monarchs finished the day with a 10 run victory over Capital and improve to 9-3 while Capital moves to 3-1 overall.

The Monarchs went scoreless in the first inning and allowed Capital to strike first in the second. In the bottom of the second senior Kyle Eudy singled to left center to give junior Dustin Procter an extra RBI, when he hammered a shot off the scoreboard to put the Monarchs up by one. Junior Billy Quinn then walked and advanced to third on a single by senior Scott Russell. Quinn then scored on another single from sophomore Brian Halpin.

Methodist scored again in the bottom of the fourth when Procter ripped a single to right center and rounded the bases on passed balls to eventually score. Junior Brad Davis walked and scored on a single from Halpin to give the Monarchs a 6-1 lead.

The Monarchs never looked back after the fourth inning and left no chance for Capital, when they batted around in the fifth inning. The Monarchs scored seven runs on six hits. Sophomore Seth Kivett had two singles in the inning along with singles from Locklear, Eudy, Quinn and Davis.

Senior Chris Toth pitched five complete innings and gave up one run on one hit. Freshmen Tre’ Britt and Jacob Evans pitched in relief surrendering three runs on three hits in four complete innings.

Week Four

The tournament went well for the team; we went 3-1 on the weekend! As for me it was a long weekend. Hosting a tournament requires allot of time and commitment. Having to take care of both teams and making sure the fields in tip-top shape come game time. Also the stats are tallied for both visiting teams and emailed to their SID. The baseball team is on the road this weekend playing in Montgomery, Alabama and making a stop in Lagrange, Georgia on the way back. My intern partner Dizzera and I also worked together on DartFish in the library. While they are on the road I will be analyzing pitching film. I will also learn to keep stats for Lacrosse and Basketball. This week I have put in 33 hours with baseball, Dartfish and working with my field site supervisor for a total of 108 hours.

A little more hands-on experience. This weekend the baseball team is having a four game round robin tournament starting Friday at three. Saturday we have a double header and close it out on Sunday with Lynchburg. This past week I have put in 36 hrs this with the baseball team, writing press releases, keeping game stats and learning Dartfish.

MY FIRST PRESS RELEASE FOR MU BASEBALL!!!

February 10, 2008
Monarchs Sweep Randolph-Macon With 9-6 Win
Junior Elliott Bisplinghoff starts the season 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Randolph-Macon struck first again today, but when the Monarchs' bats got hot they left no chance for the Yellow Jackets. With nine runs off of nine hits the Monarchs start the 2008 season 2-0 and leave the Yellow Jackets winless.

Randolph-Macon scored two runs off of two hits in the top of the first. The Monarchs struck back in the second when senior Kyle Eudy was hit by a pitch and junior Dustin Proctor laid down a bunt to advance Eudy to second. Junior Brad Davis singled to right-center to score Eudy and then junior Billy Quinn stepped up to hammer a two-run home run to right-center to score Davis and give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.

Randolph-Macon tied it up in the top of the third and added another in the 4th before the Monarchs answered back. With a lead off walk by Quinn and both sophomore Brian Halpin and freshman Jason Ridenhour reaching base on balls, sophomore Seth Kivett doubled to right-center to score Quinn and Halpin to give the Monarchs a 5-4 lead.

The Monarchs scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 8-4 on singles from Procter, Michael Carter and Scott Russell. Senior Michael Carter had an RBI along with senior Scott Russell’s two RBIs in the inning.

Both teams went scoreless until the eighth when the Yellow Jackets scored two in the top, but Kivett killed their rally with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning as the Monarchs go on to win 9-6.

The Monarchs used four pitchers on the day with Junior Elliot Bisplinghoff, sophomore Landon Jordan, freshman Tre' Britt and sophomore Alex Sholar getting time on the mound. Bisplinghoff earned the win in six innings allowing just two earned runs on six hits. Sholar picked up the save in the ninth inning where he gave up just one hit.

The Monarchs will be back at Armstrong-Shelley with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 pm versus Southern Virginia.

I am still reading up and learning Dartfish. I have not completly learned the software, but soon I will. I only have three hours a week to learn the software due to parctice starting at 3. I got all the jersey numbers into the Sport Information director to post on the baseball website. The season operner for baseball is Saturday at 1pm so come and support the Monarchs. If u can not make the first game we also play Sunday at 2pm. For future games check out the Methodist web site for a baseball schedual. Starting Saturday and for the duration of the season I will be working with my Field Site Supervisor on baseball stats and the press realeses. Week Two

Another week under the belt!! This week was very simalar to last week. On January 25 I was updated on Dart Fish. I lerned how to take my film and put it on dart fish. With that been done I learned how to take that film and cute it down and only analyze what I wanted to analyze. While doing that I have refresed my memory on creating files and deleting unwanted ones. I have been reading the chapters assigned regarding dart fish. I am understanding what is to be done, but I am a hands on kind of guy. If I am shown and/or guided I am able to do it and with a little practice i can better my knowledge of it. I meet with my feild site supervisor on Monday of this week and learned what I am to be doing outside of dart fish. I will be keeping stats at games, writing press releases and utilizeing macromedia to update the university wedsite. I have got new film with the baseball team to analyze. I have got 25 hours in this week from Jan. 25-31. Next week will consist of more filming and analyzing. I am going to spend some time with internship supervisor and learn more about dart fish. I will also work with my feild sit supervisor and gain knowledge regarding macromedia, dreamweaver and work on press releases. I have a big project coming up with the basketball team and dart fish. The basketball team is looking to creat a video of the team to reach out to recruits. I will have more information on that later on in the week.
