Monarchs Sweep Randolph-Macon With 9-6 Win
Junior Elliott Bisplinghoff starts the season 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Randolph-Macon struck first again today, but when the Monarchs' bats got hot they left no chance for the Yellow Jackets. With nine runs off of nine hits the Monarchs start the 2008 season 2-0 and leave the Yellow Jackets winless.

Randolph-Macon scored two runs off of two hits in the top of the first. The Monarchs struck back in the second when senior Kyle Eudy was hit by a pitch and junior Dustin Proctor laid down a bunt to advance Eudy to second. Junior Brad Davis singled to right-center to score Eudy and then junior Billy Quinn stepped up to hammer a two-run home run to right-center to score Davis and give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.

Randolph-Macon tied it up in the top of the third and added another in the 4th before the Monarchs answered back. With a lead off walk by Quinn and both sophomore Brian Halpin and freshman Jason Ridenhour reaching base on balls, sophomore Seth Kivett doubled to right-center to score Quinn and Halpin to give the Monarchs a 5-4 lead.

The Monarchs scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 8-4 on singles from Procter, Michael Carter and Scott Russell. Senior Michael Carter had an RBI along with senior Scott Russell’s two RBIs in the inning.

Both teams went scoreless until the eighth when the Yellow Jackets scored two in the top, but Kivett killed their rally with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning as the Monarchs go on to win 9-6.

The Monarchs used four pitchers on the day with Junior Elliot Bisplinghoff, sophomore Landon Jordan, freshman Tre' Britt and sophomore Alex Sholar getting time on the mound. Bisplinghoff earned the win in six innings allowing just two earned runs on six hits. Sholar picked up the save in the ninth inning where he gave up just one hit.

The Monarchs will be back at Armstrong-Shelley with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 pm versus Southern Virginia.
